COACH AND MANAGER INFORMATION
It is an honor to be selected as a Coach or Manager for the 2022 Saskatchewan Winter Games. The dedication and commitment of our Coaches and Managers is appreciated as you lead and prepare your athletes for what will be one of the most memorable experiences of their young athletic careers.
The following will generally acquaint you with the various responsibilities as well as other important information.

Coach Roles and Responsibilities
Eligibility:
Coaches’ eligibility:
  • Must meet the minimum NCCP certification standards as set out for your sport’s Technical Package for the Games. If coaches selected do not meet minimum certification requirements, an exemption will need to be applied for and granted by the Saskatchewan Games Council to participate.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 prior to the start of the Games. For more information, please see the FAQ tab on this website.
  • Must have completed and hold a valid Criminal & Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Must have completed the Respect in Sport (RiS) online training program for coaches.
  • Must ensure they review and understand their sport‘s Technical Package. Any questions should be directed back to your PSGB’s Provincial Technical Liaison for the Games.
  • Must ensure the district team is comprised of eligible athletes whose Saskatchewan domicile or actual residence for at least six months prior to the Games was located within the recognized boundaries of the district they are representing. For further clarification on athlete eligibility, consult the Athlete Eligibility Policies and Guidelines on Page 44 within the Saskatchewan Games Handbook or contact the Team Regina Coordinator.
Promotion:
  • Contact the Team Regina Coordinator to introduce yourself and advise them of your selection and to advise of any upcoming District team selection/tryout dates and locations (if applicable), and to enlist help in promoting such.
  • Promote the Saskatchewan Games and the District team selection/tryout dates and locations to all eligible participants involved in your sport within the district.
  • Attend the Team Regina staging event (PEP rally). This event will include the most up-to-date information and presentations about the Games and will include the distribution of the Team Regina walk-out uniforms for each team.
Team Selection:
Once the team is chosen, Coaches and Managers provide logistical support to the teams, including such duties as:
  • Finalize rosters and submit to the Team Regina Coordinator.
  • Walk-out uniform sizing.
  • On-line registration (using GEMS.pro), collection of Code of Conduct and Medical Release forms
  • Ensure payment of Sask Games participant fees via PayPal system from the GEMS.pro website
  • Provide team members with information applicable to the team’s participation in the Games, including transportation, meals, accommodation, pep rallies or staging events.
  • Coaches with the support of the Team Manager will supervise their teams during their stay in the host community.
Team Regina Walk-out Uniform:
  • The official District color for Team Regina is purple.
  • The walk-out uniforms have been pre-ordered from the supplier to ensure on-time delivery. Therefore 100% compliance with each team’s size order cannot be guaranteed. Every attempt will be made to fill each team’s sizing request to what was ordered.
Team Regina Competition Uniform:
  • The PSGB is responsible to coordinate and provide District competition uniforms. The competition uniform should follow the District colors and be of a consistent style and quality as the other Districts.
  • Sports are to use the District name in "Daniel Black" font and the base color of the uniform should be in the proper District color.

    * Note: Names of individuals are not permitted on the walk-out or competition uniform.
Pep Rally (Prior to the Games)
  • Team Regina will host a Pep Rally (Staging Event) in early February. The program will include the opportunity to receive final information about the Games, hear presentations from the Host Organizing Community and a motivational speaker, receive your team’s walkout uniforms, a host handbook, pre-purchase Games souvenirs, etc.
  • Every attempt should be made by all coaches, managers, and athletes to attend the pep rally. Parents are also welcome.
  • Planning for the pep rally is in development. Stay tuned for more details.
Getting to the Games:
  • Since Regina is the host, there will be no coordinated team travel for Team Regina. Instructions will be provided later regarding the timeframe and process for Team Regina participants to check in for the Games.
Cost to Participate:
  • As a coach or manager for the Games, there is no additional fee for your participation. Your participation includes your ceremonial walkout uniform, and meals and accommodation at the Athlete’s Village.
At the Games
  • Everyone must attend the Opening or Closing Ceremonies of the Saskatchewan Games (dependent on which half you participate in). The Host Community will be making these ceremonies special with exciting entertainment and celebrities.
  • Coaches and managers will be housed in the Athletes' Village at the University of Regina. This is required for supervision responsibilities and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their teams.
  • Coaches and Managers will also eat all their meals at the village.
Chef de Mission and Mission Staff Support
  • The Team Regina Coordinator will serve as the Chef de Mission and establish a small core of people to serve as Mission Staff. Team Regina Mission Staff will help manage the overall coordination of Team Regina, as well as assume responsibility to address team conduct at the Games.
  • Another key responsibility will be to establish communication and dialogue with the coaches and managers about travel, walk-out uniforms, pep rally, competition schedules, registration requirements, etc., up until the commencement of the Games.
  • In summary, the Mission Staff are assigned to help make the Saskatchewan Games experience as informative and worry free as possible from beginning to end!
Other Information
  • As the Games draw nearer, more detail will be coming about the above items (either through the Team Regina Coordinator or your PSGB). If you are unsure or have questions on any of the above, check in with the Team Regina Coordinator for clarification.
